JADE PETTYJOHN, CONFRONTED BY MISOGYNY, STEPS OUT AS A ROLE MODEL

Jade Pettyjohn may not be a name you recognize now, but this teen actress has appeared in numerous films and is currently one of the primary stars of Nick's School of Rock, expected to return late summer for season 3. In addition to coming into her own as an actress, Jade recently demonstrated that she was ready to step up as a role model for her younger fans.

On May 22nd, she posted a selfie photo to her Instagram account with a lengthy caption detailing a recent experience she had with misogyny. During a conversation about social issues and politics, a person "who will remain nameless" suggested she would be more inclined to talk about shades of lipstick. While this person may not have had ill intentions, misguided behavior like this left unchecked only allows its proliferation.

Jade shares with us how, after a moment of surprise, she called him out on his "condescending and patronizing" comment. Archaic ideas that women are incapable of commentary that ventures beyond makeup, malls, or baking still reside in the minds of many otherwise kind men. In defending herself, she stood up for women everywhere.

By subsequently sharing her experience on Instagram, Jade also opted not to be a bystander to misogyny and provide inspiration to countless young fans who may need that push to defend themselves the next time they're victims of any form of discrimination.

Ms. Pettyjohn makes her purpose for the post clear: "it is so incredibly important to stick up for yourself. Don't think for a second that you are inferior or that you don't have ideas of your own." Hopefully her message will resonate with those who needed to hear it.

We look forward to watching Jade impress with her comic timing on School of Rock and continue to develop as a young Feminist leader. She closes with, "Speak with intelligence and grace and stay true to what is true for you."

As she did.

The other day I had a conversation with someone (who will remain nameless) who had been talking about different social issues and his political stand point on things. He had turned to me and said "Sorry. Let's talk about something you'd know. What's your favorite shade of lipstick?" I stared at him for a bit and replied with "what a condescending and patronizing thing to say to someone" not to mention the fact that I am very interested in what's happening in the world and have opinions of my own that are stronger and deeper than a shade of lipstick. I bring this up not to roast or throw shade at the person who had said this. I say it for this reason: ladies, and gents for that matter, it is so incredibly important to stick up for yourself. Don't think for a second that you are inferior or that you don't have ideas of your own. Speak with intelligence and grace and stay true to what is true for you. That's all. (Respect to those who actually read through this entire rant) xx

MAY 2017 LOOTCRATE UNBOXING - GUARDIANS ➤ #DrewsCorner

Unboxing the May Lootcrate was a bunch of fun

Look what's inside.

Also, I'm funny. And the video is funny. And it's only 3 minutes. And shut up there are some funny aspects and I shout out Jenny Nicholson.

If I shout her out in every video someday she will show up, like Beetlejuice, right?
